A Goodbye Song

But people come, and people go;
you've lived long enough, you ought to know.

A little wisdom goes a long, long way.
It's not as easy to do as it to say.
Do you believe this is the only way?

We built dreams by candlelight,
and chased stars all through the night,
and if they really were a million eyes,
we knew they were loving and wise.

But what good do they do you now
if you can't reach them somehow.
Have you forgotten how?

Life goes on, like it or not:
Too cold in the winter; the summer's too hot.
It's not so hard to get lost in the dark,
and when the spider spins its web sometimes we get caught.

Has the oddity now come to an end?
How do you say goodbye to a forever friend?
We'll never pass this way again.
